    Hello,
Is Citalopram safe to use by pregnant women? If not, why is it not recommended?

    Hello hsmall77,
Citalopram is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) which is a drug used in anxiety disorders and it is a controlled substance. Studies have proven that the use of the drug in early pregnancy is dangerous and can lead to heart defects for the child. However, the drug might be prescribed if using it can save a life.
